An introduction to the ship's tank cleaning operation gives students a fundamental understanding of the requirements, components, and regulations involved in ship tank cleaning process. Students will also be exposed to the proper cleaning method and system as set by international classification bodies, which includes procedures before, during, and after the cleaning operation and the certification required by the tank cleaning operator before the process can begin. Furthermore, depending on the kind of cargo, this course discusses various kinds of cleaning materials (solvents, agents, surface activators, chemicals, etc.) and how they are utilized. The course also covers correct practices for preventing marine pollution or contamination during the cleaning operations.
The main focus of this course is to introduce the basic principles in shipbuilding, the processes related to shipbuilding, the regulations involved whether set by the IMO or other organizations that are responsible for ensuring that the construction of a ship goes through the correct process and achieves the requirements set. This course also introduces the rules related to achieving solid ship stability and in the event of damage as well as the calculation aspects involved in those matters.
